The confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Africa have exceeded 240,000, the World Health Organisation says.

WHO’s regional office for Africa announced this through a tweet on Monday.

The organisation stated that more than 109,000 people have recovered from the virus across 54 countries in Africa.

According to the tweet, COVID-19 has killed more than 6,400 people as of today.

“Over 240,000 confirmed #COVID19 cases on the African continent – with more than 109,900 recoveries and 6,400 deaths,” WHO tweeted.

The WHO African region COVID-19 dashboard showed that Ghana is now ahead of Algeria with 11, 422 reported cases, fourth highest in Africa, while the North African nation has recorded 10,919 cases.

South Africa remains the country on the continent with the highest reported cases of 70,038 followed by Egypt with 42,980 cases.
