John Boyega risked a lot to join the Black Lives Matter protest yesterday in London, and his Star Wars colleagues have shown support for his heroic act.
In a video that was uploaded on Twitter yesterday, June 3, 2020, the Finn actor is seen passionately addressing his black brethren, putting his career at risk and damning the consequences.
The Black Lives Matter protest was a demonstration of individuals in the black community showing their displeasure over the killing of George Floyd (and all the others who have lost their lives due to racist acts of violence) in the United States.
At a point in his speech, Boyega references his Hollywood career, saying, “Look, I don’t know if I’m gonna have a career after this, but f**k that.”
Several notable directors, including Jordan Peele, Cathy Yan, and Phil Lord also said how honored they would be to work with him in the industry.
The statement made by the Star Wars official Twitter account says, “Lucasfilm stands with John Boyega and his message that, ‘Now is the time. Black lives have always mattered. Black lives have always been important. Black lives have always meant something.” They ended the statement by calling Boyega “our hero.”
