The announcement was made yesterday June 1, 2020, where it was stated that the event would be delayed due to current events.

The PS 5 reveal event was scheduled to air on Thursday, July 4, 2020. It was supposed to give many gaming fans the first official look at the console along with some demonstrations of next-generation titles.

Following the success of PlayStation 4, there have been a lot of expectations with the release of its successor, and the presentation billed for this week was meant to aid Sony to show its direction with the upcoming console while giving consumers a better glimpse at it.

Apparently, the event had to be shifted due to the demonstrations following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week.

In its official statement on Twitter, Sony said:

We have decided to postpone the PlayStation 5 event scheduled for June 4.

While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.
