Asake Expresses Condolences To Dead Fan, Consoles Injured

Popular Nigerian musician and songwriter Ahmed Asake, simply known as Asake, is mourning the death of a fan in London after a stampede at his concert. The incident happened at Brixton O2 Academy on December 15th, 2022.

In a statement published on his social media page, Asake sent his condolences to the family of the victim, stating that he never expected something like this could happen.

He wrote,

“I am devastated by the news that Rebecca Ikumelo, who was in critical condition since Thursday, has sadly passed away.

“My sincerest condolences to her loved ones at this time. Let us please keep her family in our prayers. I have spoken to them, and will continue to do so.

“I am overwhelmed with grief and could never have imagined anything like this happening.”

After the stampede, which killed three people and injured seven, Asake said that he was awaiting reports from the police and the managers of the venue about what caused the disruption. He urged members of the public that might have relevant information to speak up to the authorities.

He wrote,

“My team and I are still awaiting the full debrief back from the venue management and the police to determine what exactly led to the disruption.

“If you have any relevant information relating to this, please reach out to the Metropolitan Police.”
