Aliyu Wamakko, a former governor of Sokoto State and current leader of the All Progressives Congress in the state, has said that Bola Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate, was brought in to maintain national unity.

After receiving a solidarity visit in his Gawon Nama home in Sokoto, Wamakko made this statement to the leadership of local communities and the council of Obas in the state.

While welcoming the two groups, Wamakko stated, “therefore, Sokoto is a home to all the tribes regardless of where one comes from.”

He urged people to “come together and work for a better tomorrow” because “Nigeria is for all of us.”

Senator Wamakko said he ended what were called “school fees” for people who weren’t native to the state when he was governor.

He went on to say that he trusted them so much that he appointed one of them as a special adviser in his government.

If the APC were to win the election in 2023, he assured them, the party would take them into account in its operations.

The obas’ council and the communities’ residents in Sokoto State, meanwhile, have publicly declared their support for the All Progressives Congress’ candidates.

During their visit, the senator was informed by Alhaji Surajudeen Sahabi, the Chairman of the Council of Obas, who spoke on behalf of the association, that the Obas were prepared to work with the APC leadership to ensure the success of the party in the upcoming 2023 elections in Nigeria, particularly the success of the APC presidential candidate, Tinubu, and the APC governorship candidate in Sokoto State, Ahmed Sokoto, among other candidates of the party.
Alhaji Salmanu Oke, who heads the Association of Sokoto State Residents Community, told Wamakko that his group was there to show its unwavering support for the APC in the upcoming elections.

He went on to say that the people of the state would never forget the help they received from the government when Wamakko was in charge.
Tribal leaders from Yoruba, Igbo, Tiv, and Hausa, among others, were given the opportunity to speak in their native tongues during the visit.

Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo, the North West Zonal Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and other notable party leaders in the state attended the event.
