Burkina Faso Junta Says It Thwarted Coup Attempt

In a decisive move, security and intelligence services in Burkina Faso successfully thwarted an attempted coup on Tuesday, as announced by the ruling junta during a press conference held on Wednesday.

While specific details regarding the coup plotters remain undisclosed, the junta confirmed that several arrests have been made, and an intensive manhunt has been initiated to apprehend additional collaborators involved in the conspiracy.

The day following the suspension, thousands of pro-junta demonstrators took to the streets of the capital city, Ouagadougou, and other key locations across Burkina Faso to show their unwavering support for the junta. The current junta came to power following two military coups that occurred last year, partly triggered by the worsening insurgency led by armed groups with affiliations to al Qaeda and the Islamic State.
