A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Martin Otse, the controversial social media critic known as VeryDarkMan, who faced accusations of cyberbullying.

Otse was released from police custody after meeting the bail conditions on Monday. However, the specific terms of his bail have not been disclosed to the public.

Otse faced charges related to cyberstalking and was arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja on May 22. The Nigerian police charged him with posting offensive videos on his Instagram account and making indecent allegations against celebrities Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh.

One of the charges alleged that Otse posted videos containing information that was “grossly offensive, pornographic or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character” on his Instagram handle.

In another charge, the defendant was accused of alleging that Iyabo Ojo was involved in an indecent sexual relationship with her daughter. Additionally, the police claimed that Otse alleged Tonto Dikeh was behind the gossip blog Gistlover.

Otse has denied all charges brought against him.

The prosecution initially requested his remand in prison, but his legal team argued for him to remain in police custody. The court approved this request, leading to his transfer to the National Cybercrime Centre.

OduNews recalls that VeryDarkMan was initially arrested on March 22 but was released on March 31. His lawyer disclosed that the arrest stemmed from complaints lodged by Tonto Dikeh, Iyabo Ojo, and Samklef.
