A serious three-car crash on the M65 has left one person dead and five others hospitalised. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning near Junction 9, prompting the closure of the busy motorway in both directions.
Lancashire Police confirmed that the collision was reported around 3:37 am, with emergency services quickly arriving on the scene. The motorway remains shut between Junction 8 for Hapton and Junction 10 for Burnley as authorities continue their investigation.
“At around 3:37am, we were called to reports of a collision at Junction 9 of the M65 involving three vehicles. Emergency services attended, and five people were taken to hospital with serious injuries. One person has very sadly died,” a police spokesperson told The Sun.
The police extended their condolences to the victim’s family, stating, “Our thoughts are with their loved ones at this incredibly distressing time, and they are being supported by officers.”
Diversions have been put in place, and motorists are urged to avoid the area as the investigation into the cause of the crash continues.
