Suspects Caught Following Intelligence Report, Investigation Ongoing
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abia State has apprehended two suspects involved in child trafficking and abduction in Aba town.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, ASC Doreen Udugwu, the suspects, identified as 24-year-old Uche Royal and 20-year-old Chidera Donatus, were arrested on December 26 following a tip-off.
Donatus, a native of Nenwe in Agwu Local Government Area of Enugu State, and Royal, from Ohaji LGA of Imo State, were reportedly linked to the abduction of a three-year-old girl, Chiamaka Ahamefula, who was rescued during the operation in Ukpaka Ukwu, Umuahia.
Investigations revealed that Donatus was introduced to Royal by a man known as Danji, who resides in Aba and is currently at large. Further findings indicate the suspects have been involved in child trafficking for some time.
The NSCDC State Commandant, Akinsola Aderemi, reiterated the agency’s commitment to tackling criminal activities in the state, emphasizing efforts to “smoke out” perpetrators of child trafficking.
“The case will be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for prosecution upon conclusion of investigations,” Udugwu stated.
In his remarks, Aderemi called on parents to take greater responsibility in raising and safeguarding their children, urging vigilance to prevent such incidents.
