Security operatives stopped a bandit attack on a community watch and hunters' base in Sukunkumi village, Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State on March 26 evening.
About 15 heavily armed bandits on motorcycles tried to overrun the facility around 7:30 pm. Security teams responded quickly, engaging the attackers in a gunfight that forced them to flee into nearby bushes.
Operatives recovered three motorcycles at the scene. Two of these bikes had been taken from hunters during the clash itself. One community watch member, Yusuf Ibrahim, 30, suffered a gunshot wound to his left leg and received treatment at General Hospital Kankia.
According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the rapid response prevented what could have been a serious loss of life. The security sources confirmed that patrols and clearance operations have intensified in the area to track the fleeing suspects and stop further attacks on the community.
