Autism Circle of Support will host a specially designed cinema experience for children on the autism spectrum on Saturday, 9th May 2026, at Silverbird Cinema from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The event addresses a real challenge many families face: taking children with autism to the movies often feels impossible due to sensory overload and social anxiety. For parents of autistic children, what should be a simple family outing becomes a source of stress rather than joy.
The loud sounds, dim lighting, and crowded spaces typical of cinemas can overwhelm children with sensory sensitivities. Many parents also fear negative reactions from other moviegoers if their child stimulates or behaves differently during the screening. These concerns keep families at home, missing out on recreational activities that other families take for granted. Autism Circle of Support recognizes this exclusion and decided to create an alternative.
The sensory-friendly cinema experience has been thoughtfully adapted to accommodate children with autism. Sound levels are reduced significantly, lighting remains softened rather than completely dark, and children are free to move around, make noise, and express themselves without restriction. The space is explicitly judgment-free, designed so families feel accepted and supported rather than watched or criticized.
Attendance costs β¦2,000 per caregiver and child combination. However, the organization has committed to ensuring money is not a barrier to participation. Families unable to afford the fee are encouraged to register anyway, with support to be considered on a case-by-case basis. The group is also arranging transport logistics for families who need help reaching the venue, recognizing that access involves more than just selling tickets.
Slots are limited to maintain the calm, comfortable environment essential for the experience to work. Families interested in attending must register in advance and complete payment before receiving confirmation. For enquiries, interested families can contact the organization at info@autismcircleofsupport.com or call 08085255769.
The initiative extends beyond simply screening a film. Autism Circle of Support views this as creating moments where every child, regardless of neurodevelopmental differences, can experience belonging and joy. The organization recognizes that true inclusion means designing spaces where children participate fully, not just gaining access to existing spaces. Registration will remain open until capacity is reached, with families expected to confirm attendance before 9th May.
