A fire swept through a bungalow in the Federal Housing Authority estate in Lugbe, Abuja, on Wednesday, leaving the structure in ruins but no one dead or injured.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene after neighbours raised the alarm. The cause of the fire remains unclear. Officials said preliminary investigations would determine what triggered the blaze.
Residents of the estate told journalists that the fire spread rapidly through the building. By the time firefighters arrived, much of the structure had already been consumed. The bungalow, a two-bedroom residential building, was a complete loss.
No one was inside the house when the fire broke out, neighbours said. If the timing had been different, the outcome could have been far worse. The lucky escape meant the Abuja Emergency Management Agency could focus on containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to adjacent properties.
Investigators will return to the scene over the coming days to examine what caused the outbreak. Electrical faults, cooking accidents, and gas leaks remain common causes of residential fires in Abuja. The agency urged residents to install smoke detectors and keep fire extinguishers in their homes.
