Nollywood actor Saga Adeolu has revealed that he finds kissing on camera uncomfortable and unpleasant, despite the assumption that actors enjoy such scenes.
Speaking on the Nolly Icons podcast, the reality star explained that most actors do not actually enjoy onscreen kisses but perform them purely for the sake of the script. He said the physical sensation of kissing another actor, particularly the exchange of saliva, makes the experience genuinely unpleasant.
"It is not easy to kiss another actor. It is weird. I have not really had any good onscreen kiss," Adeolu said. "It is weird having people invade your mouth with saliva. It is not something we enjoy. People think we enjoy it, but we don't. We are just doing it for the story most times."
The actor went further to say that if he had control over his roles, he would decline kissing scenes altogether. He recalled a particularly demanding shooting day when he had to kiss four different actresses in a single session on set.
Adeolu used the opportunity to call for a shift in how the public views actors who perform intimate scenes. Rather than judge them, he said audiences should recognize and commend their professionalism in delivering such scenes for the sake of the film's narrative.
"If I had my way, I won't kiss anyone in a film," he said. The remarks come as Nollywood continues to produce romantic films that frequently feature kissing scenes, a staple of the genre that has long been a subject of discussion among actors regarding consent, comfort, and artistic interpretation.
