Hon. Ogundu Kingsley Chinda won the All Progressives Congress governorship ticket for Rivers State in 2027 after three rivals, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara, dropped out of the race.

Chinda ran unopposed in the primary held Wednesday night. The other aspirants who withdrew were Tonye Cole and Alabo Dakorinama George-Kelly. As the sole candidate, Chinda polled 268,497 votes.

Kwamoti Bitrus, the chairman of the state governorship primary, commended party members for their turnout and praised the agents who supervised the process. He thanked the Rivers APC chairman for ensuring the primary ran smoothly.

Chinda represents Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, where he serves as Minority Leader in the 10th Assembly. He was first elected under the People's Democratic Party before joining the APC.

Chibike Ikenga, the APC's publicity secretary in Rivers, said the party has been reorganised and recalibrated. He argued that Chinda's nomination shows the party is now stronger and positioned to unify Rivers residents and drive development across the state.
