A witness to the death of singer Mena in Delta State has revealed that the police officer accused of killing her, Usman Nuhu, had a documented history of assault and misconduct before the incident that took her life.

Comrade Umukoro Efemena, who was present when events unfolded, told journalists that Nuhu's actions that day were not isolated. He said the officer had previously attacked civilians without provocation and faced complaints from residents in his posting area.

"This man had done similar things before," Efemena said. "People knew him as someone who used force without thinking. When he turned on Mena, many of us were not shocked by his behaviour, only that it ended in her death."

Efforts to reach Nuhu for his account of events have been unsuccessful. The officer remains at the centre of investigations into Mena's death, which has drawn attention from entertainment industry figures and human rights groups.

Effemena's statement adds weight to emerging questions about whether police screening and disciplinary procedures failed to prevent the tragedy. He described seeing Nuhu act with aggression during the encounter with the singer, though he stopped short of providing a complete account of what transpired.

Mena's family has demanded a thorough investigation and justice. Police authorities in Delta State have said they are conducting a full inquiry and will release findings once the process concludes.

The case has reignited debate about police conduct and accountability in Nigeria. Entertainment organisations and civil society groups have called for stricter vetting of security personnel and faster disciplinary action against officers with histories of misconduct.

Family members of the deceased singer are expected to meet with police investigators next week to provide additional witness statements. The Force Public Relations Officer said the investigation is ongoing and all leads are being pursued.
