Chinese Internet Company operating in Nigeria, OPay gives workers the shock of their lives with the announcement of new policies regarding salary taking effect from January.
OPay in a newsletter sent to its staff mentioned clearly that the company will only pay a 16-day salary for the month of January – and this has sparked an air of rage from the workers.
The issued circular obtained by OduNews.com partly reads:
We bring to your notice that in a bid to harmonize the payment system of the entire OPay business unit, attendance for January has been closed on 20th January 2020. This is another adjustment to the attendance circle which was earlier announced to close at the end of the month. A new attendance circle started on Tuesday 21st January 2020 and will end on Thursday 20th February 2020.
January salary will only include 16 workdays after which the attendance circle will completely normalize. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you. We are continually working to provide the best work for you this year.

Workers at OPay frown at this new development, referring to it as “breach of the highest order”.
“Lmao these people are so heartless, it always pays day they bring out new payment plan… I did 30 days with them sometimes last year… lmao ? I couldn’t fit anymore… I literally just walked out of the office on the 30th day”, one commented.
Another Twitter user even called on the EFCC to swoop into the issue.

Working as an opay staff is just synonymous to slavery… Who pays their staff 16 days salary after a month of work?#OpayPayUs#OpayStaffSlavery

Opay is owing their staff. Must be as a result of the ban placed on bikes and tricycles. Contrary to that, why would they pay half salary for December 2019 when January 2020 is a day to close up?

In this same Nigeria, a multi-national company has refuse to pay for December arrears and a complete January salary. Not to talk of salaries coming second week of the next month. No pension payment, no promotion @hannytalker @segalink @Biisi96 @fifthdisciple #opay #jobs #latepay

This is one of the most useless company with no human feeling for their workers at all. Bringing out several policies only when salary ought to be paid. They need to be put to shame.@instablog @BBCNews @OPay_NG @TundeEdnut @MBuhari
