In a bid to strengthen his administration and foster open communication, Kano Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf announced on Thursday the approval of 45 newly sworn-in special advisers, granting them the freedom to offer their guidance whenever they deem it necessary.
The formal induction of these special advisers took place at the Government House, where the state attorney general and commissioner of justice, Barrister Haruna Dederi, administered the oath of office. Governor Yusuf underscored the importance of their role during this inaugural event, urging them to work closely with the government in the interest of the state.
Governor Yusuf emphasized the principle that “nobody has a monopoly on knowledge,” highlighting the need for constructive criticism and accountability. He urged his advisers to have the courage to approach him if they believed he was making misguided decisions.
“You should be bold enough to look me in the eye and tell me when I am wrong,” Governor Yusuf declared. “No one is infallible, and your fundamental duty is to provide counsel when necessary and support when I am right.”
He also stressed the importance of collaboration between the special advisers and civil servants to achieve the administration’s objectives and fulfill its promises to the people of Kano.
“In our first 100 days in office, we have prioritized the timely payment of salaries and allowances, as well as the promotion of civil servants,” the governor stated firmly. “Therefore, disloyalty will not be tolerated. Anyone unwilling to work with us should be prepared to leave.”
Governor Yusuf directed the State Head of Service to emphasize the importance of dedication to work and service to humanity among civil servants. He reminded them that they had taken an oath of office and should uphold it by dedicating themselves to the betterment of the state.
“Kano relies on you today,” he emphasized. “Your selection as advisers was based on your proven track records in serving humanity. I urge you to provide us with appropriate guidance to make Kano great.”
Governor Yusuf’s call for cooperation and transparency within his administration signifies a commitment to good governance and accountability as he seeks to steer Kano State toward progress and prosperity.
