The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed his commendation for the Presidential Election Petitions Court’s decision to affirm the victory of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking exclusively during Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program on Thursday, Minister Wike offered his insights and praises regarding the court’s verdict.
“Nigerians have spoken, and the court has affirmed it,” declared Minister Wike, echoing the sentiments of many across the nation who have awaited the court’s decision with bated breath.
Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, also took the opportunity to laud the five-man panel of the Tribunal, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, for their meticulous delivery of the judgment.
“I didn’t expect that the election would be overturned because the President won squarely,” Minister Wike remarked, clearly acknowledging the credibility of the electoral process.
He continued by expressing his joy and extending his congratulations to President Tinubu and his Vice President, Shettima, for securing their victory in the legal arena, adding, “I am happy; it’s a moment of joy. I celebrate Mr. President and I congratulate him and his Vice, Shettima for the victory.”
In an unprecedented show of appreciation for the Nigerian judiciary, Minister Wike commented, “I also commend the judiciary. For the first time, as far as I am concerned, I have never seen what I saw yesterday (Wednesday).”
He went on to commend the dedication of the judges, noting that they spent a considerable amount of time meticulously reviewing and delivering their judgments, a sign that the nation’s judiciary is continuously improving.
“Their commitment to sitting for nothing less than 10 hours to deliver those judgments is truly commendable,” Minister Wike emphasized.
In a call for unity and cooperation, the Minister urged the petitioners, PDP’s flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar, and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi, to join hands with the Tinubu administration.
As the nation absorbs the aftermath of this pivotal judicial decision, the commendations from a prominent political figure like Minister Wike serve to underscore the significance of upholding the will of the Nigerian people and strengthening the nation’s democratic institutions.
