The Kwara State Police Command confirmed an attack on a Police Mobile Force camp in Nuku Village on Friday, April 10, 2026, leaving five forest guards dead. Armed bandits launched a coordinated assault on the PMF Camp at approximately 3:45 a.m., according to the police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi in a statement issued in Ilorin on Friday.
The attackers opened fire on members of the National Forest Guards stationed at the camp, fatally shooting all five officers in what authorities described as a bloody confrontation. The bandits also inflicted extensive damage on a police patrol vehicle before PMF personnel at the camp successfully repelled the assailants and prevented further casualties. The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, expressed deep sympathy to the families of the deceased and strongly condemned the attack as a serious breach of security.
The police command has launched tactical and intelligence-driven operations to track down those responsible for the assault. Adekimi ordered continuous monitoring of the situation across affected areas to ensure resident safety and prevent additional security breaches in the coming days. Security personnel have intensified patrols across Kaiama Local Government Area following the incident.
The police appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing information that could assist the investigation. The attack marks another security incident in the region following a similar incident on March 22, 2026, when armed bandits invaded Woro and Nuku communities, killing numerous residents and abducting over 170 people who remain in captivity. The recurring attacks have heightened concerns about banditry in the state.
