A severe windstorm swept through Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Wednesday night, destroying houses, food storage facilities and property worth millions of naira across eight communities.
The affected areas are Sambera, Jeroki, Becinga, Nassarawa, Tunga Soja, Tauken Mage, Tunga Muminu Oro and Ciwan Wanzam. Faruku Abubakar Maisudan, the lawmaker representing Suru Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, visited the communities to assess damage and console residents after the disaster.
Many families lost their homes when the storm either damaged or completely blew off their houses. No deaths were recorded, though the destruction left residents displaced and scrambling to salvage what remained of their property.
Maisudan told the victims his heart went out to them in their suffering. "I urge you to accept it as a trial from Almighty Allah," he said during the visit.
The lawmaker promised to bring the matter before the state Assembly and Governor Nasir Idris. "I will ensure your condition is presented to the appropriate authorities so that immediate support can reach you without delay," Maisudan said.
Office of the Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency joined Maisudan on the assessment tour and committed to sending relief materials to the affected residents. The agency said it would coordinate a swift response to help those whose homes and livelihoods were destroyed in the storm.
