Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has used the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to call on citizens to support his administration's drive to improve their welfare and push sustainable development across the state.
In his message to mark the Islamic festival, Mohammed asked residents to continue backing the government as it works to implement policies and programmes designed to better their lives. The governor did not specify which policies he was referring to, but the appeal comes as Bauchi, like most northern states, grapples with security challenges, infrastructure deficits, and economic hardship.
Eid-el-Kabir, also known as Sallah, is one of the two major Islamic festivals celebrated by Muslims worldwide. In northern Nigeria, the festival is marked with elaborate festivities, including durbar festivals in cities like Kano and Katsina, though Bauchi's celebrations are more subdued.
Mohammed's call for continued support reflects a common approach among governors during major festivals and national occasions, when they use the platform to rally citizens behind their administration's agenda. The message suggests the governor believes public buy-in is necessary for his government to achieve its development objectives in the state.
