2020 Grammys: Burna Boy’s ‘African Giant’ Nabs Nomination

Burna Boy’s fame has just shot to the stratosphere as his African Giant album has been named in the list of nominees for the 2020 Grammy Awards.

The album is nominated in the Best World Music category for albums with at least 51% playing time of new vocal or instrumental World Music recordings.

He was nominated in the category alongside Altin Gün for Gece, Bokanté & Metropole Orkest Conducted By Jules Buckley for What Heat, Nathalie Joachim With Spektral Quartet for Fanm D’Ayiti, and Angelique Kidjo for Celia.

Burna Boy follows in the footsteps of Seun Kuti, Femi Kuti and King Sunny Ade in getting nominated in that category at the Grammy Awards. Other Nigerian Grammy nominees include Babatunde Olatunji, Wizkid, Timaya, and Kah Lo. The only Nigerian to win a Grammy Award remains Sikiru Adepoju.

It has been a phenomenal year for the Afrobeat star who has churned out hit after hit track and made notable collaborations. His Grammy nomination confirms his worldwide acceptance on the global music scene and fans will be delighted.

Burna Boy was scheduled to perform in South Africa but the show has been canceled by the organizers following outrage and threats from within the country.
