It also introduces the character of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) as a ‘sister’ to Natasha, who goes on the path with her to settle old scores once and for all.

Speaking about the relationship between Romanoff and Belova, Pugh talked about director Cate Shortland’s vision of keeping the story “raw and painful.”

Cate [Shortland] was so good at being so vigilant about keeping this story raw and painful. It’s about emotions, and it’s about these broken girls trying to come back together again, and trying to fix something that happened. It’s about fixing yourself, and how you do that. As an idea for a Marvel film, and as a young woman, it’s like, ‘Oh, my God, this is amazing.’ Young women are going to see this, and they’re going to watch Scarlett in her element, and they’re going to watch this storyline, and that’s only a positive thing.”

Johansson also had this to say about the plot:

I think part of Kevin Feige’s genius is that he always thinks about what fans expect out of these films and then gives them something that they never could’ve dreamed of. The idea of Natasha Romanoff in a family drama is the least expected thing, and I had to wrap my head around what that was going to be because there’s such a big tonal shift.”

The defamation appeal was against The Daily Telegraph and Nationwide News, and a decision reached by an Australian federal court in April 2019 was challenged owing to two of their stories found to be inaccurate.

The two aforementioned articles claimed that Geoffrey Rush was a sexual predator and “pervert” after one of his co-stars from the Sydney Theatre Company production of 2016’s King Lear accused the actor of sexual misconduct.

Even though the identity of the accuser wasn’t named, it was later revealed that it was actress Eryn Jean Norvill, who played the role of Cordelia, Rush’s daughter in the production.

During the trial, Norvill alleged that Rush had intentionally touched one of her b**bs during a performance, something which the movie star went on to deny.

In the end, Rush has emerged victorious, winning the sum of $2.9 million.
