Nigerians have resumed the call for the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in the country after the death of a Nigerian footballer was linked to some of its operatives.

The footballer, Tiyamiyu Kazeem, who was the Assistant Captain of Remo Stars Football Club was allegedly killed by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in Sagamu on Saturday.

The club, in a statement on its Twitter handle on Saturday said they regret to announce the departure of “our assistant Captain and Defender, Tiyamiyu Kazeem (Kaka).

“The Club is doing everything possible to investigate his ultimately death. May his soul rest in perfect peace.

“Until his death, he was a humble and reliable defender for Remo Stars FC in the ongoing 2019/2020 Nigeria National League (NNL).”

The death of the footballer has reignited the calls for the scrapping of SARS among Nigerians.

The current tragic incident is among many others that have been allegedly carried out by SARS operatives in the country.

SARS operatives were under fire in Abeokuta during the week for allegedly shooting two traders at a market place.

Odunews.com also reported how some SARS operatives stormed a Lagos hotel to harass people before they were beaten up by Soldiers.

A cross section of Nigerians have taken to social media to lash out at the Police and also call for the ‘unconditional’ disbandment of SARS.
