Students Can Retake WASSCE Papers Within Weeks of Results
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has introduced resit examinations for candidates, marking a major change in its approach to the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The new initiative allows students to retake failed papers as early as January and February 2025, significantly reducing waiting times compared to previous years.
Confirming the development during an appearance on JoyNews’ AM Show in Ghana, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, outlined the process.
“Students who access their results now and realise they need to resit one or two papers have until 8th January to register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés,” Kapi said.
The resit exams, officially called WASSCE PC1, are scheduled to take place from January 24 to February 15, 2025.
Kapi added that even students whose results were canceled can participate in the resit exams, provided they are not subject to bans for malpractice. This change is expected to benefit thousands of students by offering a faster route to improve their grades and meet academic or career requirements.
The resit exams reflect WAEC’s commitment to making the examination process more flexible and responsive to the needs of students across West Africa.
