The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps arrested 39 suspects and sealed an unlicensed security company operating in Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday.
The illegal firm, Uniquely Network Rescue Services, had been running without proper registration or authorization from the relevant authorities. Officers from the NSCDC descended on the company's premises and found it operating in breach of security sector regulations that require all private security outfits to be registered and licensed before commencing operations.
The 39 arrested suspects were staff members and operatives of the firm who were found working without the required credentials. They face charges related to illegal security operations, which carry penalties under Nigerian law designed to protect citizens from unvetted security personnel.
This operation is part of the NSCDC's ongoing campaign to rid the state of unregistered security agencies that pose risks to public safety. Unlicensed security firms often employ poorly trained staff, lack proper accountability structures, and operate without oversight from government agencies, making them potential security threats.
The sealed premises will remain closed pending the outcome of investigations. The arrested suspects will be interrogated to determine their backgrounds and whether they have any prior involvement in criminal activities. Officials say the crackdown will continue across other parts of Akwa Ibom to identify and shut down similar illegal operations.
