Tyler Perry is reportedly footing the funeral bills for the late Rayshard Brooks and will also take care of the college education of his four children.
Brooks, a black American, was killed by an Atlanta police officer on Friday night, and PEOPLE reports that Perry has offered to pay for his kids’ college tuition.
According to a source who spoke with the news outlet, the movie mogul has contacted Brooks’ family and wanted to do something to help them.
“His heart goes out to the family during this tragic time”, says the source.
Brooks was 27 years old at the time of his death. He leaves behind his wife, Tomika Miller, and four children; Mekai (13), Blessing (8), Memory (2), and Dream (1).
Following Brooks’ death, the officer responsible was fired and Atlanta police chief, Erika Shields, resigned. The other officer involved, Devin Brosnan, has been placed on administrative duty.
Brooks’ demise comes amid continued protests by the black community against police brutality against them, spurred by the killing of another black man, George Floyd, weeks ago.
