Abia State Appoints Benson Okereke as New Head of Service

Governor Alex Otti has approved the appointment of Mr. Benson Okereke as the new Head of Service (HoS) for Abia State. Okereke will assume the role following the retirement of the current HoS, Dr. Queen Obioma, whose tenure ends on December 31, 2024.

The announcement was made in a press statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu, on Monday.

“Following the conclusion of a rigorous merit-based selection process, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, has approved the appointment of Mr. Benson Ojeikere as the new Head of Service for Abia State Civil Service. This appointment takes effect from December 31, 2024,” the statement read.

Governor Otti extended his congratulations to Okereke on his appointment while expressing gratitude to the outgoing HoS, Dr. Ngozi Queen Obioma, for her contributions to the state during her tenure.

Dr. Obioma’s leadership has been praised for its dedication and impact on the Abia State Civil Service. Her departure marks the end of an era, while Okereke’s appointment signals the beginning of a new chapter in the state’s civil service administration.
