Police begin investigation into armed robbery at OOU student hostels

Suspected robbers numbering about 12 invaded student hostels at Olabisi Onabanjo University's Ibogun Campus around midnight on Saturday, shooting sporadically and stealing phones, laptops, and other valuables before fleeing the scene.

The gunmen forced students to flee their rooms in panic. Some victims sustained injuries while trying to escape the hostels. A social media post by Jinadu Michael Mabayomije detailed how the robbers moved across different hostels on campus, firing their weapons as they went, and even carjacked a student's vehicle during the raid.

The Ogun State Police Command said it has begun investigating the incident. The Divisional Police Officer of Ibogun Police Division and the Area Commander were deployed to assess the situation and begin their work. DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command's spokesperson, called for calm and assured the public that students were safe.

Jinadu's post called on Ogun State Government and the police to act urgently. He said the level of criminality on a university campus could not be tolerated and demanded that the perpetrators be arrested. Students, he added, deserved to learn in a safe environment. The Ogun State Police Command will continue its investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
