Ogun APC bans unauthorised screening of 2027 election aspirants

The All Progressives Congress in Ogun State has banned any unauthorised screening of candidates hoping to contest the 2027 elections, warning party members that violating the order will attract serious punishment.

The party's state leadership made the announcement to stop what it called fraudulent activities and ensure that only legitimate aspirants go through the party's official screening process. The ban covers all positions, from local government to federal levels.

Party officials said anyone caught conducting unauthorised screening would face sanctions, though they did not specify what those penalties would be. The move appears aimed at preventing rogue screening committees from extorting money from hopeful candidates or endorsing people who have not gone through proper vetting.

Ogun APC has not yet announced the official dates for its screening exercise or the requirements aspirants must meet. The party is expected to release detailed guidelines for the 2027 election cycle in the coming weeks. Party members who want to contest elections have been advised to wait for official announcements from the state party secretariat in Abeokuta.

The ban follows a pattern seen in previous election cycles when parallel screening exercises in various states led to court cases and party crises. By centralising the process and banning alternatives, Ogun APC aims to prevent such conflicts and maintain party unity ahead of the general elections.
