OAU wins national STEM competition, beats FUTA in grand finale

Obafemi Awolowo University has won a national Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics competition, defeating Federal University of Technology, Akure in the final round. The victory caps a rigorous selection process that tested students' knowledge, innovation, and problem-solving abilities across STEM disciplines from universities nationwide.

OAU's Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, confirmed the win on Tuesday. Both OAU and FUTA had advanced to the grand finale after outperforming other competing institutions in earlier rounds. The final itself was highly competitive, with both universities displaying strong creativity, teamwork, and technical expertise before OAU secured the overall title.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adebayo Simeon Bamire said the victory reflected the university's long commitment to academic excellence. "This landmark achievement reaffirms our enduring legacy in science and technology education, research, and innovation," he said. He credited the students' discipline and ingenuity, and praised the dedication of the institution's academic staff in producing the result.

"It is a proud moment in the history of our university and a demonstration that we remain a pacesetter in STEM education, research, and innovation," Bamire added. The Global President of the Great Ife Alumni Association, Leye Falode, also praised the students for their resilience and teamwork. "This victory is a product of rigorous preparation and the enabling academic environment provided by the university. Our students have once again shown they can excel at the highest level," Falode said.

University management thanked the team for bringing honour to OAU and acknowledged stakeholders whose support contributed to the success. The institution said it remains committed to nurturing talent and sustaining academic excellence in STEM fields.
