Benson Obire, the Delta State lawmaker representing Warri South Constituency 2, has formally announced his intention to seek a second term in the state assembly, vowing to deliver more dividends to constituents if re-elected.
Obire made the declaration on Sunday at the residence of Olorogun Bernard Okumagba, chairman of the Warri APC Leadership Council, where party members, supporters and delegates from across the constituency gathered to hear him outline his plans. The lawmaker told the crowd that his first term has already touched the lives of ordinary people through concrete projects, from free books and school bags distributed to learners across six primary schools to ongoing seat provisions and school renovations.
He named the beneficiary schools as Agbassa, Caveginia, Olodi, Ighogbadu, Edjeba and Ikengbuwa primary schools, emphasising that renovation of public primary and secondary schools will soon begin under his recently approved constituency projects. "I promised to significantly surpass whatever achievement I have recorded prior to this time and that a second tenure for me will usher in unprecedented dividends to the constituents," Obire told supporters.
The lawmaker used the occasion to praise Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, crediting him with delivering excellently across the state's 25 local government areas. Obire specifically highlighted the Julius Berger overhead project in Warri and Euffurun as the first of its kind in Delta, calling it audacious proof of the governor's commitment to infrastructure development in the constituency.
Obire called on Deltans to mobilise support for Oborevwori, President Bola Tinubu and all APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections. He said voters would continue to benefit from the socio-political and economic reforms of the Tinubu administration and the performance of what he described as Delta's "working governor" poised to deliver more in his second tenure. The lawmaker urged party faithful to unite behind APC candidates at all levels, saying the 2027 election coast was already clear for overwhelming APC victory.
Okumagba, in his remarks, thanked all present for their solidarity and unity of purpose, acknowledging the support shown for Obire's re-election bid. Obire returned the appreciation, commending Okumagba's visionary and inclusive leadership that has brought party members together and restored hope to Warri South Constituency 2.
The declaration sets up what is expected to be a significant campaign leading to the 2027 state assembly elections, with Obire positioning himself on his first-term record while the broader APC looks to consolidate power across Delta state.
