Police have named key suspects in the kidnapping of relatives of Adeniyi Adebayo, the former Minister of Budget and National Planning, as operatives continue hunting for gang members who fled the scene with bullet wounds.
The Osun State Police Command released the identities of the men believed to have orchestrated and executed the abduction, assigning specific roles to each suspect in the operation. Authorities did not immediately disclose how many people were taken or when the abduction occurred, but confirmed that investigations are moving at pace.
According to police statements, some of the suspects remain at large after the kidnapping. Officers said these fleeing members of the gang sustained gunshot injuries during their escape, which police say may help track them down. The command has mobilised resources across multiple divisions to pursue the suspects.
Adebayo served as Minister of Budget and National Planning under President Muhammadu Buhari's administration from 2015 to 2023. His family members became targets in what investigators are treating as a kidnapping for ransom, though police have not confirmed whether any demands have been made.
The police command said it will release further details as the investigation progresses. Officers have appealed to members of the public to provide information on the whereabouts of the fleeing suspects, particularly anyone matching the description of injured men seeking medical treatment in hospitals or clinics across Osun and neighbouring states.
