One look at Victor Ebiye and the first thing that comes to mind is the oddity of the man standing before you. Then you realize that he is different in a comic way and that brings a smile to your lips as it dawns on you that you stand before the Prince of Comedy!
The hilarious sensation known as Victor Ebiye has risen to become one of the most recognizable faces in the comedy genre today, and that is thanks to his overly emotional skits where he is frequently seen shedding tears!
A Graduate of Engineering from Covenant University, the comedian laughed his way to the limelight after he performed a skit about popular Nigerian blogger Linda Ikeji during the time she acquired her house in Banana Island.
THE FUNNY ENGINEER
Victor Ebiye is an indigene of Delta State and studied Electrical Engineering at the aforementioned Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State.
He took advantage of the powerful tool that is the social media to advertise and promote himself, stating that with it he can “be in my bed and drop a skit.”
He often improvises dialogues with unseen characters and his convincing acting makes the viewer forget that he is alone. He is a music lover and music plays a prominent feature in some of his skits.
His serious expression in some of the comedy skits often produces a hilarious effect and he mimics people who are in sensitive positions and how they often react to unexpected developments in their everyday life.
Victor Ebiye also acts as people who are predictably annoying, making those that come in contact with them to hold them in contempt.
What makes him stand out is that he is spontaneous as most of his skits are made on the spot (this is called physical comedy).
Since his breaking into the entertainment scene, Victor Ebiye has gone ahead to perform in shows like Mama Tobi: Untamed, Mayorkun: The Mayor of Lagos, Nonso Amadi: Homecoming, and Ajebutter: What’s Happening in Lagos.
He has also headlined his own show Ebiye Presents: Bag of Emotions (something he achieved in less than two years of officially launching his career).
His show was sold out at the Hard Rock Café and he was nominated for The Future Awards Prize for Comedy in 2017.
He was featured in the music video for Wayward by Ajebutter and has pledged to always keep making fans happy with a steady stream of projects.
On January 28, 2020, Victor Ebiye released a comedy skit in which he steps into the personality of Nigerian singer 9ice, responding to fellow artist Burna Boy losing a Grammy Award to Beninise legend Angelique Kidjo.
In the video, Ebiye (playing 9ice) is upset that his music isn’t nominated for a Grammy and is suddenly elated when he finds out about Burna’s loss to Kidjo.
A lot of fans on Twitter weren’t pleased with the skit and blasted Ebiye, saying that it was disrespectful of him and that only one of 9ice’s tracks was more profitable than his entire career.
As a comedian, Victor Ebiye has shown that he has what it takes to rub shoulders with the very best as his way of presenting his work is unique and relatable.
The Nigerian audience has shown love to the budding career of the promising young man and OduDiscover can’t help but fall in line with those who recognize the extraordinary deeds of an extraordinary fellow at the top of his game.
