Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested on Thursday evening in Franklin, Tennessee, following a car accident that led to multiple charges, including driving under the influence (DUI) and possession of a handgun while intoxicated. The 40-year-old was detained after allegedly rear-ending another vehicle and showing signs of intoxication when police arrived at the scene.
According to law enforcement reports, officers noted a strong smell of alcohol coming from Cutler’s car, and he appeared to have slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. Despite these observations, Cutler refused to take field sobriety tests. Authorities subsequently transported him to a hospital to obtain a blood sample, though the results of his blood alcohol content (BAC) have not been disclosed yet.
During the incident, police also discovered two firearms in Cutler’s vehicle, one of which was a loaded pistol. As a result, he was charged with possession of a handgun while under the influence, alongside other offenses, including failure to exercise due care and violation of Tennessee’s implied consent law.
Cutler was booked into the Williamson County Jail, where he posed for a mug shot that showed him looking visibly unpleased. He was later released on a $5,000 bond, according to a statement from the Franklin Police Department. The circumstances leading up to the crash are still under investigation, and authorities have not yet provided further details.
Cutler, who was once married to reality TV star Kristin Cavallari, shares three children with her—Camden, Jaxon, and Saylor. The couple, who starred together on the reality show “Very Cavallari,” finalized their divorce in 2022 after nearly a decade of marriage.
Throughout his 12-year career in the NFL, Cutler played as a quarterback for the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins. He began his professional career with the Broncos in 2006, spent the majority of his time with the Bears, and concluded his career with the Dolphins in 2017.
