Former President Muhammadu Buhari expressed his profound satisfaction with the recent ruling of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.
The tribunal, in a landmark decision, upheld the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, in the fiercely contested February 25 election.
Speaking through his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, Buhari hailed the Tribunal’s unwavering commitment to justice. He said the tribunal has “written history” despite facing various forms of intimidation and prejudice.
The former president also lauded the tribunal for upholding the rule of law and respecting the will of the majority of Nigerians, whose collective desire was to see their electoral choices upheld.
Buhari stated, “If anybody has won today, it is democracy and the Nigerian people. With the verdict of the Supreme Court, the election period is over, and it is time to put the heat and dust behind us.”
The former President also urged Nigerians to rally behind the incoming APC administration led by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He emphasized the importance of national unity and support for the government to ensure the fulfillment of its promises to the people.
“From here, the new APC administration led by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu should get the support of everyone in order to deliver the promises it made to the people,” he said.
In addition to his remarks, Buhari expressed deep gratitude to all Nigerians for maintaining peace and order during the electoral process. He extended his prayers and best wishes for continued progress and development under the leadership of the APC government.
Buhari concluded his statement by sending warm congratulations to President Tinubu, Vice President, and the APC on their victory in court. He expressed confidence in their ability to work tirelessly in realizing the aspirations of the Nigerian people and ushering in a new era of governance.
